Welcome
Bethany K. Rogers is a graduate of The University of Mississippi with an Education Specialist’s
degree in Play Therapy. She received a Master in Counselor Education in
Community Counseling. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ole Miss. She is
a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the
state of Mississippi and Georgia and a Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee. She is a Registered Play Therapist and is a member of the
Association for Play Therapy. Bethany began her therapeutic work at the Child Advocacy and
Play Therapy Institute in Oxford, Mississippi in 2012, providing play therapy
services to children and adolescents as a graduate student. Her love and passion for working with children, adolescents, and families who struggle with mental health issues continue to be a driving force.
She has worked in different settings including university settings with college/graduate students,
a non-profit organization, community mental health center, and in a mental health agency that
emphasized integrative care. Her interests include foster care and adoption, infancy and early
childhood mental health treatment and advocacy, attachment disorder, neurodivergent individuals, trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and working with children of divorced families. Further, she enjoys research within developmental psychology, lifespan, and early childhood development. She strongly believes in the importance of building healthy attachment styles between a child and their caregiver.
During her training, Bethany worked at the Child Advocacy and Play Therapy Institute (CAPTI) at the University of Mississippi where she saw clients with a myriad of issues including abuse, neglect, depression, anxiety, divorce/custody cases, grief, and attachment concerns. She was trained through a child-centered, non-directive approach that gave clients the power to process their emotions in a safe and natural way—through play. Through her experience working with children and families, she has tried to implement a loving, safe, open, and nonjudgmental attitude towards all who come into her care.
Further, she believes that while a child has every right to voice their feelings themselves, she fully supports and embraces an advocacy role in the therapeutic relationship and by doing so, she gives them a chance to be heard. She has worked closely with the Department of Family and Children’s Services as well as adoption and foster placement agencies in Mississippi and Georgia to help better serve our children and families in need. She strives to help every child and family who come into contact with her.
After calling Athens, Georgia, home for nearly a decade, she has relocated to Columbia, Tennessee, to be closer to family. She is currently practicing in her new office in Columbia, Tennessee, and eager to meet you!
For those in Georgia: In the meantime, you can still contact Bethany via the Athens Therapy Co-op where she is a member and offers telehealth services as well as in-person visits quarterly. Currently, Bethany is paneled with BCBS, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, and CMO’s Amerigroup, Caresource, and Peachstate.
